At The New York Women’s Foundation, we believe that early investment in women-led organizations sets grantee partners up for long-term success and sustainability. We’re honored that Mackenzie Scott’s Yield Giving Fund has recognized the powerful impact of one of our grantee partners, LIFT-NY, with a $7 million dollar gift to their national office serving families in NY, LA, Chicago and Washington D.C.
Our investment in LIFT-NY began in 2020 after a leadership transition, when Xiomara Romain became the first woman of color to lead the NY affiliate. Since then, The New York Women’s Foundation has invested in not only Xiomara’s leadership and her growth within her national network, but also of the hundreds of women leaders like her that bring about lasting impact in historically disinvested communities, centering economic justice, security, and systemic transformation now visible to the broader philanthropic sector.
This type of amplification of community-led models is what fuels The Foundation’s commitment to investing in emerging and grassroots organizations that are the foundation of an ecosystem advancing social justice.
