We are excited to share with you the Young Women’s Initiative’s new report and recommendations that were released this morning at City Hall. We are proud to be a co-chair of this initiative alongside Joanne Smith, Executive Director, Girls for Gender Equity and Danielle Moss Lee, Executive Director, YWCA-NYC. Under the leadership of New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, this effort brought together experts from across the NYC, and put the voice and leadership of young women themselves at the center through the creation of the Young Women’s Advisory Council (co-chaired by Cherno Biko, Gloria Malone, and Amanda Matos). This unique partnership worked to determine comprehensive priorities and a plan of action to inform legislative and funding practices in the City.
The NYC Council announced a $10 million commitment, and we are matching this commitment with our philanthropic partners to make our own investments in New York City’s girls and young women of color in alignment with YWI’s recommendations.
